Dr. Eric L. Lang, Ph.D.

Eric Lang, Ph.D, is the Chief Human Science Officer of Prosocial Science International (www.Prosocial.com and www.linkedin.com/in/Dr-Eric-L-Lang), which specializes in psychological, social, and behavioral science research, consulting, and training related to understanding and managing malicious and unintentional Insider Risks. Dr. Lang was previously the Director (2024-2025) of Behavioral Risk Sciences (BRS) at the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA), the largest security organization in the U.S. Government, and is best known for his leadership and contributions as the Director (2011-2024) of DoD’s Personnel and Security Research Center (PERSEREC). Dr. Lang has over 35 years of experience designing and managing social science research to improve policies and programs.  His doctorate degree in Social Psychology is from the University of Michigan and, prior to joining the Federal Government, his research and leadership included roles at the Institute for Social Research, American Institutes for Research, Sociometrics Corporation, and Northop Grumman. Dr. Lang focuses primarily on applied research to improve the effectiveness, efficiency, and fairness of personnel security, insider threat and suitability policies, systems, training, and tools.  In addition to improving programmatic quality and efficacy, R&D innovations from his group have resulted in savings of hundreds of millions of dollars. Dr. Lang provides consultation, keynote presentations, and “Science-based solutions for Human-based problems” to many public and private sector organizations in the U.S. and key international partners (for example through his Advisory Board roles in Australia, Canada, Israel, and Sweden), most recently in areas related to insider risk and organizational culture.
